Benefits of Nuclear Power

  • It's a clean way to produce energy as it does not result in the emission of any of the poisonous gases like carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide or nitrogen dioxide.
  • It has been proved that if a typical family of four uses nuclear power for all its needs then the waste produced over a period of a lifetime would be as small as a golf ball.
  • Nuclear power is an extremely reliable power source because the reactor have a life cycle of 40 years and be easily extended to 40 years.
  • The source of nuclear power is uranium and this is available in abundance in the crust of the Earth with major deposits being uncovered in Canada and Australia. Therefore since the source of nuclear power is readily available now and also for centuries to come, this form of power is virtually inexhaustible.
  • The biggest fear associated with nuclear power is the fear of radiation and this can only be overcome by educating the people about the method of radiation and its behavior. People would be surprised to know that radiation has been a part of our environment ever since its existence and that radiation in moderate amounts can even be advantageous to our health. Therefore, radiation need not be feared from but can be channeled appropriately to serve mankind in a positive way
  • Nuclear power is good and scientific as well as environment friendly because of which it is being supported by many ecological organizations and environmentalists who were previously biased against it.

    1. Nuclear fuel when used is stored and sent as waste. Some people figured out how to reuse this waste. Japanese and the French have been doing it for years.

    2. Nuclear power is the future of generating power for us. No more burning fossil fuels, and releasing loads of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Sure there is the odd accidents every 20 years, but there are more deaths through burning coal alone in three years then there were in the chernobyl accident. Nuclear power is the future.

    3. I think that it is very cool to learn about nuclear power plants, because it is the future of the earth.

    4. Also, the operators at Chernobyl were running experiments, testing the limits of the plant. When they pushed it too far, there was no containment structure to stop the meltdown.

    6. You forget though the half a million people that died of cancer resulting from the fall out resulting from the Chernobyl incident.

    10. Hi there,

Good infomations there, but im just wondering since we all are aware of the consequences that we might face if a nuclear power plant fails any of the security systems and eventually causing an undesirable situations such as an explosion , do you think Malaysia will be able to recover back from the impact and damages? And do you think its realy worth for us to put our country at that high risk since the effect from the explosion which can cause genetic mutation in human or animal may last for few generation.

    11. As mention a question above by Mr.PAVANESVARAAN SUBRAMANIAM : "do you think Malaysia will be able to recover back from the impact and damages?"
In my opinion, Malaysia will not able to recover back from the impact and damage if any undesirable situations happens such as in Chernobyl because Malaysia is just small country compare to Russia so the effect from explosion will cause disaster to all over Malaysia and sent radioactive cloud across neighbouring country.I suggest Malaysia should just continue with generation of hydroelectric energy.

    12. As mention a question by my friends pavanes and Amreet? In my view our Malaysian education department have to do motivation to school students to make them interested in nuclear power plant and expose their in that section,so that in future ,might can be produce good scientist and engineers that can be overcome the nuclear energy effect.Hope malaysian goverment will do motivation in among school and university student which this steps will really needs in the future.

    13. Nuclear energy prices are stable. A country (or an electric company) can
buy years of supply of uranium when the price is low; it doesn't take up much
space and can be easily stored until needed. Most countries (or utilities)
don't have space to store more than 3 or 6 months supply of fossil fuels.

nice article..Nuclear energy give us more pros more than cons. Introducing nuclear anergy to our country is the best way. Besides our country cannot afford on gas and coal for power generation anymore.

    16. Hi,
I got read about the small nuclear power can produce a lots of energy and it is expensive.I wonder if how much nuclear power would we need for a country like Malaysian and how long it would be stand?
